Royals to open football playoffs at home
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Victor Valley Christian leads three local 8-man football teams into the playoffs this weekend.
The Royals, the No. 2 seed from the Agape League, will host Cate, the second seed from the Condor League, in a first-round game in the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs at 7 p.m. on Friday. Victor Valley Christian hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2003.
“I told my kids to take advantage of it — just the experience of playing in the playoffs,” Victor Valley Christian head coach Obie Galindo said. “It took five years to get there, so I told the younger ones to take advantage of it.”
Hesperia Christian and Excelsior both received at-large bids to the playoffs. The Patriots play at Omega League-champion Sierra Canyon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles travel to La Verne/Lutheran, the winner of the Majestic League, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Agape League-champion Joshua Springs is a No. 1 seed in the Division II playoffs.
