CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP 10-15-08: Sun Devils split with Scots
Comments 0 | Recommend 0APPLE VALLEY • Apple Valley’s Hannah Valenzuela and Daniel Rosales each broke their home course records as well as their school records in a Mojave River League meet against Rim of the World on Wednesday.
The Sun Devils boys (3-1, 2-0 MRL) defeated the Scots 25-34, while the Apple Valley girls (1-3, 0-2 MRL) lost 23-32.
'Valenzuela led from start to finish and crossed the line in a time of 18:13. Rosales finished first with a time of 15:31, and Apple Valley’s Sam Nunes (16:53) took third.
“I’m pleased with the entire team’s performance; they responded well to the challenge,” Apple Valley coach John Nunes said. “Both Daniel and Sam have been challenged by Rim the past couple of weeks. Daniel took back his top position in league.”

COUGARS SWEEP: At Apple Valley, both the Granite Hills boys and girls teams prevailed in a Desert Sky League matchup against Victor Valley.
The Granite Hills boys (2-0 DSL) swept the Jackrabbits with a five-way tie for first, led by Jacob Lindstrom.
On the girls side, the Cougars (2-0 DSL) won by forfeit and finished in a seven-way tie for first, led by Jzsanette Lindstrom.
The race was held at Horseman’s Center on a 3.1 mile course.

D’BACKS SWEEP: At Hesperia, Serrano’s Nathan Lamb (17:14) and Lauren Minnick (19:38) each set new course records as the Diamondbacks kept Hesperia winless in the Mojave River League.
Daniel Gonzalez and Joanna Flores paced Hesperia.

HAWKS, BURROS SPLIT: At Victorville, Silverado won the girls race, while Burroughs won the boys race in a Desert Sky League meet.
Sara Taylor set a new course record, finishing in 20 minutes, 5 seconds. Silverado claimed seven of the top nine spots in the race.
On the boys side, Caleb Rosales (17:11) set a course record to pace the Burros. Reggio Rubio (17:54) finished in second and ran the fastest time ever by a Silverado runner on its home course.
