CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP 10-29-08: Sultana stays perfect
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HESPERIA • The Sultana girls cross country team swept up the first four spots in its dual meet against Serrano to win 18-37 on Friday and finish undefeated in Mojave River League dual meets.
Shayna Robinson led the way for Sultana (6-0, 4-0 MRL) finishing in a time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds. She was followed by teammates Hannah Munyan, Jane Higuchi and Cassie Bird across the finish line.
Defending league champion Serrano (3-1 MRL) dropped its first league dual meet of the season. Lauren Minnick (19:20) led the D’backs.
On the boys side, Nathan Lamb won the race in 16:27 and helped the D’backs defeat the Sultans 24-31. Sultana’s (1-4, 1-3 MRL) Jesse Lopez finished second to pace the Sultans.

SUN DEVILS SWEEP: At Hesperia, the Apple Valley boys finished off their Mojave River League dual season undefeated, while Hannah Valenzuela set the course record in leading the girls past Hesperia.
Sam Nunes paced the Sun Devils boys (4-0 MRL) in 17 minutes, 21 seconds. Hesperia’s (0-4 MRL) Daniel Gonzales finished second.
Valenzuela ran the course in 19:01, which broke the old course record set at 19:38 earlier this season by Serrano’s Lauren Minnick. Apple
Valley (2-2 MRL) swept the top five spots in the race. Joanna Flores finished in sixth for the top spot for the Scorpions (0-4 MRL).

AZTECS, COUGARS SPLIT: At Barstow, the Granite Hills girls swept and the Barstow boys won easily to both finish undefeated in the Desert Sky League.
Ian Barba and Andrew Romano finished in identical times to pace the Aztecs (4-0 DSL), while Chris Rivera paced the Cougars.
“I thought there was a possibility that we would lose today,” Barstow coach Jim Duarte said. “A couple kids were nursing injuries, not major injuries, but we were starting to get concerned.”
Jzsanette Lindstrom led Granite Hills to the girls win.

BURROS HAVE EASY DAY AT VICTOR: At Victor Valley, the Burros swept the first five places in the boys race, while Victor Valley only had one female runner and had to forfeit the girls race.
Caleb Rosales led the boys, while Jennifer Speer and Jenny Durtschi each crossed the finish line with the same time for Burroughs.
