Comments 0 | Recommend 0SERRANO EXCELS: At Arcadia, Serrano won the girls race by a wide margin at the Arcadia High School Apache Invitational, while the boys team finished fourth.
The Diamondbacks girls scored 17 points, while Arcadia was second with 53 and Sultana (55) finished third in the six-team race. Serrano took five of the top six spots: Kauren Tarver was first with a time of 17 minutes, 35 seconds; Jessica Feuerstine (18:00) was second; Dani Henry took third at 18:01; Lauren Minnick (19:05) finished fifth; and Skyler Tarver was sixth with a time of 19:10.
On the boys side, Kameron Silva’s time of 16:28 was good enough for 24th and led Serrano to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams. Also for the Diamondbacks, Kyle O’Leary was 29th in 16:45; Chris Thibodeau finished 32nd with a time of 16:58; Nathan Lamb (17:12) was 35th; and Chaz Feuerstine took 41st at 17:29.
The meet was rescheduled from Thursday due to air quality concerns.
WALTERS TAKES TOP SPOT: At Arcadia, Sultana’s Brett Walters set a new school record and a course record at the Arcadia High School Apache Invitational with a time of 14:36, leading the Sultana boys team to a second-place finish.
Meanwhile, the Sultana girls got a fourth-place finish from Lainie Bird (18:47) and took third as a team despite the fact that they had only five runners and were missing standout Samantha Espinola.
Also for the Sultans on the boys side, Kyle Gallagher (15:06) was fifth; Art Parra took seventh with a time of 15:21; Steven Upham was 15th in 16:05; and Jesse Lopez (16:17) was 19th. The Sultans’ 45 points were second to Arcadia’s 32.
For the girls, Jane Higuchi (19:13) was eighth; Katie Keyes (19:25) took ninth; Alyx Yankaskas was 17th in 20:49; and Bridgette Forbes finished 27th with a time of 22:40.
