GIRLS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP 11-6-08: Royals take top seed in Agape
Comments 0 | Recommend 0YUCCA VALLEY • The Victor Valley Christian volleyball team swept Joshua Springs 25-11, 25-15 and 25-19 in its final Agape League match of the season on Thursday to finish as co-champs with the Lightning.
The Royals (13-7, 9-1 AL), who defended their title from a year ago, will get the league’s No. 1 playoff seed.
“That’s the best they’ve played all season and everybody played well on the same night,” VVCS coach Shelley Morgan said. “We had great teamwork.”
Puneet Sandhu had eight kills and three aces; Rachel Conway provided seven kills, two blocks and 10 digs; Cassie Morris chipped in with seven kills; Xena Jones added five aces; Mary Galindo tallied 11 digs; and Suneet Sandhu finished with 18 assists and three kills.
HESPERIA 3, APPLE VALLEY 0: At Hesperia, the Scorpions wrapped up their season with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-9 win over the Sun Devils.
Brittany Westplat led the way for Hesperia (3-5 Mojave River League) with Brittany Westplat 11 kills, 11 aces and seven digs. Belinda Dunbar had seven kills, seven digs and four aces; Kia Viera had 13 digs; Samantha Beltran helped out with three digs and one ace; and Jaissi Manriquez added eight digs and 19 assists.
The Scorpions finished fourth in the MRL while the Sun Devils took fifth.
HESPERIA CHRISTIAN 3, ACADEMY FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 0: At Hesperia, the Patriots wrapped up third place in the Agape League with a 25-12, 25-10, 25-18 victory.
Hesperia Christian’s (8-2 AL) Lacey Taylor had nine kills, two aces and 10 digs. Amanda Powles had five kills, one ace and six digs, and Ashley McCloud added four kills, four aces, eight digs and three blocks.
For AAE (4-6 AL), Geneva Rivera led the way with three kills and three blocks. Sarah Fisher had two kills and six blocks, and Rachel Slawson added six digs.
EXCELSIOR 3, ANTELOPE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 0: At Antelope Valley, the Eagles won their final Agape League match of the season with a 25-8, 25-11, 25-18 victory.
Angelique Gonzales led Excelsior with nine aces and two kills. Corrine Rueger had six aces and two kills; Stephanie Strunk had two aces, five kills and four digs; McKenna Poole chipped in with three aces, four kills and two digs; Sally Lloyd helped out with four aces, one kill and one dig; and Kali Rueger added four aces and two assists.
APPLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 3, BETHEL CHRISTIAN 0: At Lancaster, the Warriors finished off Agape League play with a 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15 sweep.
Kelsey Verburg led the way for AVC (9-9, 6-4 AL) with 10 kills, 13 assists and five aces. Lauren Chapdelaine had five kills; Nicole Warren tallied five aces and eight digs; and Kaitlyn Smith dished out six assists.
